If you are planning to remove a tree from your home or business in the Northern Rivers, we recommend checking your local council regulations. For those who live in Kyogle, you will need approval if you intend to harm, cut, top, lop or remove a tree on your property. You can read more about eligibility and approvals
here.
For those who live or run a business in Lismore, you must apply for council approval before removing or pruning trees of a certain species. Generally, weeds and fruit trees are exempt from these regulations; however, we recommend still reading the information outlined on the council website, as penalties do apply for infringements of the Lismore City Council Tree Preservation Order (PTO).

There are many different rules for tree removal, depending on where in the Shire you live or run a business. If you plan to remove a large tree or clear native vegetation, you will likely need approval from the Ballina Shire Council. To avoid penalties, we recommend calling the Planning and Environmental Health Division on 1300 864 444.

If you live in Rous, be sure to contact the county council regarding which laws apply to you.
